VINS D'AUTOUR DU MONDE
Vins d'autour du Monde
This will be so much fun!
I recently had the pleasure of tasting seven really sensational wines from seven different countries! They are all unique: some have a spritz to them, some are dark and lusty, some taste like ripe grapefruit and some like ripe cherry! I think our guests will be pleasantly surprised by each one of these wines for May.
2008 Basa Rueda The winery is Basa and the region that this wine hails from is the Rueda. This clean, herbal blend of Verdejo (a Spanish variety of wine grape), Viura and Sauvignon Blanc is vibrant and fresh!
2008 Fonseca Vinho Verde This spritzy and lively wine is from northwest Portugal and is a blend of four Portuguese grapes: Loureiro, Trajadura, Perderna and Alvarinho.
2008 Wither Hills Sauvignon Blanc I had to include a New Zealand Sauvignon Blanc because these SB’s are some of my most favorite wines (alongside Gruner Vetliners). This Sauvignon Blanc is clean with nice grapefruit, lemongrass and mineral flavor.s Mmmmmhmmmm
2008 Goats do Roam Rose I have seen this wine at World Market – the label seemed a bit silly and I haven’t always loved wines from South Africa. Our wine rep. brought in this wine to taste and we all loved it! It is a Rhone blend of Shiraz, Mourvedre, Gamay Noir and Grenache Noir grapes. I do love Roses – usually only from France and California..but this one rocks! Please try it and tell me what you think!
2008 Tierra Secreta Malbec John and I fell in love with Malbecs when we visited Buenos Aires a few years back. We love the big dark berry and earthy flavors. Even for a young red, this Malbec is lusty…love it!
2006 Kangarilla Road Shiraz Libby was asking the difference between a Syrah and a Shiraz – does anyone know? I seem to think that it is the same grape – a Syrah with an Aussie accent. John really loved this beauty – a soft yet dark berry filled mouth – very typical of Aussie Shriaz’s. You taste tons of fruit…this will be a wine we serve with some special sausage and our cheddar chive scones!
2007 Rocca delle Macie Sasyr Viva Italia! This super Tuscan blend of Sangiovese and Syrah will take you straight to Florence – to a little trattoria overlooking Il Duomo. It is a delicious easy drinking light red that will be fun to pair with pizzetas or bruschetta.
I hope that you all enjoy this “step outside of the Petit Soleil box” and that you will find this wines as enjoyable as we do!
Cheers!
