Meze and marine mammals...trust me!
After breakfast this Thursday morning, I happened to glance outside to my dismay. A longer look sent me straight past the lace curtains, beyond the geraniums and into the dreary gray sky looming overhead. It was staring right back at me with a challenge, maybe even a little scoff. I mean, with all this soggy weather, what could we possibly do this weekend?!Quelle déception! My face must have looked crestfallen because a guest piped in, "Hey, its a good excuse to stay inside with a good book." True, that is an option for some, but I was looking for a little more "umph" this weekend. But what?
Then I realized, the Momma elephant seals at Piedras Blancas are having their babies this time of year! Its such an extraordinary sight to see as they are in perfect view from the shore! If you haven't seen this before, pack your bags and get in the car because you're coming to SLO for the weekend! Its an uplifting event to see in a time when some of our most precious species are becoming extinct. Because the seals are protected by the Marine Protection Act, they are expanding their population right here on the central coast.
And, I must say that the ocean is quite a beautiful sight in weather like this.
It is also right around the corner from Robin's in Cambria. Have you ever been there? Its the sister restaurant of NOVO right here in SLO. Food and wine that is just TO DIE FOR! They have a Greek meze sampler that would be perfect with a glass of red wine to warm up after viewing the seals. We love what Robin does up there and we even have gift cards for $10 off. Bonus!
Lastly, if you really just want to get out that good book, I know of the perfect spot. Our suite, Joie de Vivre, has a 3-panel fireplace with a cozy armchair backed up against it. I know, I know, am I torturing you yet?
I do hope to see some of you out there watching the seals this weekend, but if not, have a safe and happy couple of days!
Au revoir!
